Lemosho Route
Day 1: Londorossi Gate (2100m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2750m) – 3 hours
In the morning, we pick you up from your base hotel and drive through the Maasai Steppe to our starting point at the Lemosho Gate, located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. We begin our climb through the forest to our private camp—a gentle, few-hour hike to stretch our legs in anticipation of the long climb ahead.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (B/L/D).
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2750m) – Shira 1 Camp (3610m) – 5 hours
After breakfast, surrounded by the sounds of the forest, we start a slow acclimatization walk through the woods, entering the Hagenia zone, where the vegetation begins to thin as we approach the Shira Plateau. Shira is one of the three craters of the Kilimanjaro volcanic massif, along with Mawenzi and Kibo. From our camp, we have a spectacular view of Shira Cathedral.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (B/L/D).
Day 3: Shira 1 to Shira 2 or Moir Hut
After a breathtaking sunrise that reveals the vast, snow-covered crater in the distance, we gradually enter the alpine heath zone, approaching the Kibo massif from the west. Today’s hike is shorter, allowing us to further admire lobelias, senecios, and other endemic plants during our acclimatization walk.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (B/L/D).
Day 4: From Shira 2 via Lava Tower to Baranco – 6 hours
From Shira 2 or Moir Hut, we head towards Baranco, passing through Lava Tower at an altitude of 4600m. From Lava Tower, we descend to Baranco Camp at 3900m. This day is crucial for acclimatization, as we climb high but sleep lower.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (B/L/D).
Day 5: From Baranco to Karanga – 4 hours
Today is a short hiking day (3-4 hours), starting with the Great Baranco Wall. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the top of the Baranco Wall (4200m). From there, we descend into the Karanga Valley before climbing to our camp for lunch. After lunch and a short nap, we ascend another 200 meters above the camp to assist with acclimatization.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (B/L/D).
Day 6: From Karanga to Barafu/Base Camp – 3 hours
This is another short climb to the base camp, where we arrive early to have plenty of time to rest before our summit attempt to Uhuru Peak, which will begin around midnight. From the base, it will take us another six hours to reach the summit. About 1.5 hours before Uhuru Peak, we will pass through Stella Point, located about 75 meters below the highest peak. The sun will be rising as we reach the summit.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (B/L/D).
Stella Point is also considered a significant milestone in the climb, and many climbers are satisfied with reaching this location, especially if they experience altitude sickness or other difficulties. If you reach Stella Point and decide to turn back at this stage, you will still receive a certificate for climbing Kilimanjaro!
Day 7: From Uhuru Peak, we descend back to Barafu, where we will have the opportunity to rest and eat before continuing our descent to Mweka Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (B/L/D).
Day 8: From Mweka Camp to the Gate – 3 hours
This is our final day of the journey... Climbers descend from Mweka Camp to the base. Upon arrival at the gate, climbers will be awarded certificates confirming their success in reaching Mount Kilimanjaro. Afterward, you will be transported back to your base hotel.
Meals: Breakfast (B), Lunch (L), and Dinner (D).
