Weather: When to Go?
The best time to climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is typically during the dry season when there is minimal rainfall, and conditions are more stable.
The two main trekking seasons are:
June – October (Dry Winter Season):
June and July are the most popular months due to relatively stable weather.
August is also a good choice but can be more crowded because of summer holidays.
2. January – March (Dry Summer Season):
January, February, and March form the second trekking season on Kilimanjaro, offering good weather conditions.
January is often considered the best month of this period due to cooler temperatures and fewer tourists.
As you ascend, temperatures drop significantly. Even in the dry season, expect freezing temperatures at higher camps.
You may start in a tropical forest at 25–30°C, but by the summit, you'll experience -10°C in an Arctic climate—proper gear and clothing are essential.
It is also important to remember that Kilimanjaro is a high mountain, and reaching its summit requires proper physical preparation and acclimatization. Therefore, it is crucial to choose a route and expedition plan suited to your skills and experience. Consulting with an experienced guide is highly recommended.
