Local information. What to expect?
RESIDENTS
Tanzania is a country inhabited by fantastic people, very friendly, with open hearts, cordial and sociable!
The country's population is characterized by great ethnic diversity. Among the largest ethnic groups are the Sukuma, Chaga, Maasai, and people from various Bantu groups. Respect and behave culturally in the presence of Tanzanian residents.
LANGUAGE
The official language is Swahili, but English is widely used in communication and in tourist areas. It is worth learning a few basic phrases in Swahili, which your interlocutors will certainly appreciate and smile at you warmly :).
Culture and Customs
Tanzania is a country with a rich culture and traditions. Respect local customs, do not photograph people without their consent, and avoid public consumption of alcohol and smoking in public places. The majority of religious followers are Muslims (although there is also a large population of Catholics), hence, for example, do not expect to be able to buy pork in shops or restaurants. If you plan to bring kabanos sausages as a snack for trekking (which, by the way, makes a lot of sense), choose beef or poultry out of respect for the locals.
Where to Sleep and Eat
Tanzania offers a wide selection of accommodation options, from luxury hotels to safari tents. Book your accommodation before departure, especially during the tourist season.
Due to the local microflora specific to Europeans and the risk of infection (bacteria, viruses or protozoa such as amoeba) to our digestive system, avoid drinking tap water. Choose boiled or bottled water. When it comes to food, try local dishes such as ugali (cornmeal porridge) or nyama choma (grilled meat), but make sure it is fresh and prepared in appropriate conditions
Transport
When traveling around Tanzania, you can use various means of transport, including airports, buses, taxis, and motorcycle taxis. Try to use licensed carriers.
NATIONAL PARKS AND SAFARIS
Tanzania is a paradise for safari enthusiasts. National parks such as Serengeti and Ngorongoro offer unique wildlife viewing experiences. Always follow park rules and take care of the natural environment.
Traveling to Tanzania is an unforgettable experience. Respect the local culture and nature, and enjoy the beauty of this country, which offers not only amazing safaris, but also cultural and natural richness...
